Q & A Lake to Lake Events
- What if I cannot complete the course?
If you are too tired to finish, get yourself to one of the two feed stations, and we will arrange a ride back for you.
- What kind of bike should I be using in this event?
We strongly recommend that you use a mountain bike! (Preferably, with at least front suspension forks). Road bikes, tandem bikes and recliners are not permitted. Cyclocross and hybrid bikes can be used, if you are an expert and the conditions are suitable for this type of bike.
- Is the course safe to ride?
We recommend that you ride to the level of your ability and use common sense in technical areas and road crossings. For safety, we have St. Johns Ambulance personnel riding the course; as well, they are stationed at the finish area. The feed-zones, police crossings and many volunteer locations have cell phones for deploying emergency services.
- Can I pick up my friend's or team-mates kit and number?
Yes
- Do I have to be at the award ceremonies to qualify for all the great draw prizes?
Yes, and the prizes are well worth staying for!
- Are any proceeds going to charity?
In the "Classic" Event, we have been supportive of various charities including United Way, Niagara Warehouse of Hope, Aids Niagara, and the Justin Brown foundation. We also promote cycling and racing in Niagara by making a yearly cash donation to the St. Catharines Cycling Club.
- Are you accepting any mail in or drop off registration?
No, since 2005, neither mail in or drop off registrations have been accepted.
- If I register and don't get a confirmation e-mail, what is going on?
The issue is that many people have spam filters set to HIGH, so many confirmation e-mails end up in the junk mail folder, particularly with hotmail and yahoo accounts. Just check the 'confirmation list' on the 'register' link and if you find your name, then you are registered.
Q & A Great Lake to Lake Classic
- How difficult is the Lake to Lake "classic" course?
The route contains a variety of trails ranging from road to technical single track. The focus of this event is completion of the 50km route and you should have a few long rides under your belt before attempting this event. Our youngest and oldest finishers in the past years ranged between 10 to 81 years of age.
- How long does it take to complete the course?
The fastest riders usually finish in less than 2 hours, while most riders come in at 2 to 4 hours.
- When does online registration close?
Online registration closes at 5 pm on the Friday before the event. This allows us time to get the number plates assigned and labeled for pick-up the next day.
- Is there day-of or day before registration?
There is no day-of registration, but you can "Late" register the day before the event between 12-4 pm behind the caracole on the beach at Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines on the Saturday before the event . A $10.00 late fee will apply per person.
- Can I pick up my event kit and number plate prior to race day?
Yes, on Saturday, one day before the event, between 12-4 pm in front of the Carousel at Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines.
Am I able to get a copy of the course map, so I can pre-ride the course? A- The Lake to Lake organizers obtain special permits each year to use private lands that are off limits to the public. Therefore, we are unable to promote the use of our route and cannot give you a copy of the map; however, a full course map will be posted the morning of the event at H.H. Knoll Park in Port Colborne.
- How can I get an event shirt?
This year, our quality event t-shirts can be purchased for a nominal $10 fee. We are also offering long sleeves for $15 and quick drying tech shirts for $25. These can be bought online during registration, or at the event.
- Will there be a bus shuttle back to the start area, after the event?
No
